An Important educational Journey
The 5th Graders have been busy learning how to write outlines for their research papers on a woman in history. This is one of the biggest challenges they have had this year. Organization of information and ideas is crucial to most academic work. One of the most important goals for 5th graders is to learn how to organize their thoughts and ideas into a coherent essay/report form. Some students are realizing that the notes they took while doing their research were not complete. The outline helps them realize where they must go back to their resources and get more information. Other students are realizing that they must edit out some of their information because they covered too much material and are seeing how they must pull from their books and articles the main ideas and not every detail. It’s a great learning experience for every student, but not an easy one. Soon, they will be finished with the outlines and will be learning the next step: how to write an opening parapgraph with a thesis statement. Then, they will be learning how to write a conclusion. Finally, they will write the whole report with bibliography, title page and cover.
